"I open my eyes every morning half-expecting David Tennant to be standing at the bottom of my bed reading out passages from the book." God, I wish! I loved the show. Lots of fun!
I'm watching this, it definitely falls into the "so bad, it's good" category. Do you remember that show set in a casino in Vegas? It has that sort of vibe I think?
I read about the upcoming adaptation in a feature the Sunday Times did and it looked like the show was too much . Which is why I don’t need more reviews convincing me to watch it because I was already sold the moment I read that Sunday Times article 😂 Front male nudity, 80s galore, posh people’s excesses? What’s not to like!
I've watched Episode 1 and I wondered if the fact I've never read any DJC was impacting the fun a bit. I felt like I should be thrilled to see these characters in the flesh but I don't know them so I'm not excited by their grand entrances. I think I'll give ep 2 a go - tbh I could press eject at this point... but that makes me sound more miserable than I want to be!!
No I totally get this. It’s almost like it’s daring us to hate it. I’m not a Jilly aficionado, nor am I hugely keen on positive depictions of exceedingly privileged people but at least it doesn’t take itself very seriously.
It does get better (I know, they all say that!). I started off hating everyone in the show but the fact that it actually makes you care by the end is no small feat!
Finished first episode last night and my god it was so much fun! Husband ran upstairs at the first sight of thrusting buttocks (that’ll be approximately 10 seconds in then) but I shall be DEVOURING the rest of it despite RCB actor looking a bit too much like Lord Farquaard from Shrek than I’m comfortable with…
Hahaha he also reminds me of one of the dogs from The Tinder Box with those huge, saucer eyes. (He is obv v handsome but I don’t know what’s happening here.)
He suits Shakespeare. He was Prince Hal/Henry V at the RSC. And was in that Macbeth film a little while ago with Denzel Washington but I think that's only available on Apple TV +.
There's quite a lot of great TV on at the moment that I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on: English Teacher, The Penguin, Agatha All Along. Something new that's out that I've seen people discuss on Twitter is a K-drama called Love in the Big City, about a gay man living with his best female friend. It's a BL (boys love) drama so I'm assuming filled with tropes and camp but I'd be interested in your take on it! It's available on Viki here.
There’s something about it that makes my working class nerve twitch, even though it’s basically a farce. I don’t want any of them to win, except maybe the commoners.
All I can say is that I devoured this show and have an edition of my newsletter inspired by Rivals brewing in the back of my head. It's so gloriously stupid and having so much fun
OMG. 100% hooked and slightly disturbed that having inhaled the book as a teenager, I can still quote it line-for-line like an overexcited parrot. Well worth watching it with subtitles on - omnipresent “chuckles” or “breathes heavily” and horses apparently “bluster”. Blustering horses? Tally-ho!! Still amazed they got all the shagging past the censors.

Would love your take on Doctor Odyssey. I accidentally watched the first two episodes

I don’t think I’ve seen that one!
It had the guy who used to date Fergie (Black Eyed Peas not the ex Duchess!) Josh Duhamal - is was called Las Vegas, just looked it up
And I really don’t know what to make of it.
My bf was recommended that by someone just last week so I think I will definitely get to it!

I’ve watched another one and… it is certainly very aware of what it is. Thanks for reading!

Came here to work out whether to watch it and I am still not sure 🤣
"Hard to pick because, with the greatest respect, it’s impossible to divine whether everyone is absolutely marvellous or excruciatingly terrible."
I didn’t know whether to applaud or vow to ruin all their careers for ever tbh.
Is this a safe space to admit that I fancy Danny Dyer’s Freddie Jones? Because I do.
ME TOO and I never thought I’d see the day
No judgement at all. (Some judgement, but at least now we both know we will never fight in the street over a man.)
at least not in a street in Rutshire
Have you watched the second series of Feud on Disney+? Loved it!
I watched one episode. All the ingredients were there but I was reaching for my phone before it was over!
It does get better (I know, they all say that!). I started off hating everyone in the show but the fact that it actually makes you care by the end is no small feat!
Maybe I’ll give it another chance sometime!

A good face for Shakespeare! Love it. I hope he chooses to take it as a compliment.

Some good shouts here, thanks. I've seen AAA and English Teacher; will check out the other two.
The description of RC-B is perfect. I thought he looked like he’s AI generated
I’ll be honest, I think you might have to be English to really enjoy this. I mean, it’s fine but they are all grotesques

Haha I never knew horses could bluster, although the rest of the cast seem to be blustering so why shouldn’t they?
Ten minutes in and I knew it was going to be my TV of the year. Sometimes you just need chewing gum for the brain and this is Wrigleys Extra Fresh.
Haha I was going to say it was chewing gum telly but wondered if that was a bit mean. But it totally is! And that’s fine.
